Driver & Personal Assistant
- Norwood area, MA
- Part-time
- $30–35/hour
- 10–12 hours/week
I'm hiring a part-time driver and personal assistant in the Norwood area.
A little about me: I'm a guy in my mid-30s, pretty easygoing, and I try to keep the energy positive. I was injured in the past year and use a wheelchair now, so most of the job is driving my accessible van to rehab appointments. The rest is errands and helping with whatever comes up. It's a little different every week, and we'll figure out the routine together.
The job
- Driving, most of the time. My van to rehab appointments, the gym, and around Greater Boston. You'll be trained on the ramp and wheelchair securement before we go anywhere.
- Errands. Pickups, returns, shopping, packages.
- Everyday help. Grabbing something off a high shelf, carrying things in, whatever comes up that week.
- Now and then, personal care. Once in a while something unexpected comes up, like needing help in the bathroom while we're out. It isn't a regular part of the job and this isn't a nursing job, but I need you to be comfortable helping when it happens. You'll get proper training first.
Pay and hours
- $30–35 an hour. The same rate for driving, waiting, errands, and training.
- 10–12 guaranteed hours a week. Two or three regular time slots, paid even if we don't use them all. Right now my regular times are Wednesday afternoon and Friday late morning.
- More hours if you want them. Things come up, so it's a big plus if you can sometimes jump in on short notice.
- W-2 job. Paid sick time and paid training.
- Eight weeks to start. Then we see how it's going.
What I'm looking for
You need to
- Have had your license for 6+ years, with a clean driving record.
- Be able to get to the Norwood area reliably.
- Show up on time and keep me posted when plans change.
- Be comfortable helping with occasional personal care, like the bathroom example above.
It's a plus if you
- Have some give in your schedule for last-minute trips. Writers, students, freelancers, whatever: flexible schedules are welcome.
- Have experience with accessible vans, disability, or caregiving.
- Know the area well.
How hiring works
- Short application, about 5 minutes.
- Written questions, about 20 minutes online.
- Video call, about 15 minutes, basically a chance to say hi.
- References and checks for finalists: two references, plus a driving record and background check. You'd be driving me and spending time in my home, so we do this for everyone who gets that far. A record isn't an automatic no. We look at what happened, how long ago it was, and whether it matters for this job, and you'll see anything that comes up and get to explain it first.
- Paid trial, a few hours together.
